The Columbus Action Corps' new co-leaders, Djeyanba Ba and Jessica Burchard, will be participating in Community Refugee Immigration Services' (CRIS) second annual World Refugee Day celebration.
The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday at the Columbus International High School, 3940 Karl Road Columbus, OH 43224.
World Refugee Day, officially celebrated on Wednesday, June 20, is a day created by the United Nations to raise awareness of the 42 million people displaced worldwide. According to the UN, more than 800,000 people worldwide have been forced from their home countries, which is more than anytime since 2000.
In a bid to impart the importance of understanding the plight of refugees, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said, "Refugees leave because they have no choice. We must choose to help."
Djeynaba and Jessica will be passing out information about Oxfam America's Grow Campaign and asking for petition signatures. Please stop by, introduce yourself and become more familiar with Oxfam and its Grow campaign.
